Abstract

This article presents information about labradoodle, a new dog breed. A labradoodle is a mix of Labrador retriever and poodle, bred to combine the playful and loving disposition of the former with the intelligence and non-shedding coat of the latter. Developed in Australia to serve as assistance dogs for disabled people with allergies, they are now helping affluent suburban families stay chic. A miniature labradoodle can weigh as little as 25 pounds, while the standard can weigh as much as 85 pounds. A true Australian labradoodle has been bred and cross-bred over generations and can include in its bloodline Irish water spaniel, curly coat retriever and American and English cocker spaniels.
