Abstract

The article discusses a model of race discrimination that is based on wealth inequality. A research revealed that African Americans are unable to decrease the income gap due to persistence of racial discrimination. The model reveals that an initial wealth differential can result into disparity between racial groups. The reason is the interaction among agents with a large wealth differential teaches members of the wealthier group to dislike the opposing group. However, without a wealth differential even groups who exhibit animosity toward other groups will learn the ways to interact.
