Abstract: This paper explores the existential and pragmatic underpinnings of C. Wright Mills' thought. This often forgotten aspect of Mills' thinking is examined in the context of the Parsonian influence on sociology in the middle of the 20th century and is also compared to recent developments in existential sociology and postmodernism.
