Abstract

The article focuses on the issues over the use of Apple Corp.'s Final Cut Pro (FCP) software in editing television programs. The commitment of British Broadcasting Corp. to the widespread use of FCP digital editing systems has shocked London's post production community. The BBC says it will be taking 75 percent of its Factual and Learning editing inhouse by 2007. Drama and news seem also to be enthusiastically embracing the technology. The same examination was also considered in ITV as it embraces multichannel TV and develops its ITV Mobile offerings. However, Richard Thomas, Endemol UK PLC head of production, argues that FCP technology will not solve the problem of the industry. He questions its compatibility. Despite all the criticisms on the technology, still, BBC supports the use of FCP.
