Abstract
- The article reports on Alex, a 29-year-old African grey parrot, which knows something remarkable. While gorillas, dolphins and other animals have been taught numbers, Alex joins chimpanzees as one of a few animals to have a zero-like concept. And how he came to know nothing might even help humans. Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts researcher Irene Pepperberg says Alex learns by watching two or more people demonstrate an idea or concept.
