Abstract: The article provides information about a presentation that explores the different aspects in conducting an observational research to address interactional issues in the field of augmentative and alternate communication (AAC). This presentation was delivered during the First International Society for Augmentative and Alternate Communication Symposium held in Stockholm, Sweden on August 16 and 17, 1990. It also evaluates the communicative effectiveness of AAC users in different settings.
