Abstract

The article reports on the launch of news magazine by Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. Inc. Named Shock Magazine, it targets younger readers with weird images. The visually driven Shock will open up readers' eyes if the Manhattan-based publisher succeeds with its biggest gamble in years. Shock will also follow an unusual business model. Its print edition will rely mostly on newsstand sales, with five to 10 advertising pages in each issue. Most U.S. publishers draw revenue evenly from circulation and from advertisement sales.
