Abstract

The article deals with a study on the economic benefits and costs of converting furrow irrigation to drip irrigation. The adoption process of drip irrigation systems takes up to three years to achieve potential benefits such as 30 percent water saving and 15 percent yield increase. However, it was also found that investment in converting furrow irrigation to drip generation systems can generate a 20 percent increase in revenue if the irrigation is expanded as a result of water savings. Furthermore, factors like higher water prices, reduced water allocation and the possibility of selling water on the market enhance the benefits of drip irrigation system.
