Abstract
- This article focuses on a survey conducted for Detroit Renaissance Inc. and the periodical "Crain's Detroit Business," by New Economy Strategies LLC of Washington. The results of the survey revealed that Southeast Michigan's large-company culture discourages entrepreneurship and the region should do more to encourage innovation, particularly in alternative energy, life sciences and health care. The conclusions came from more than 350 executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, real estate developers and board members of corporations, nonprofits and academic institutions. The vast majority of respondents represent small businesses.
