Abstract

The article discusses male and female swimmers who broke the one minute barrier in the 100 breaststroke. The 100 yard breastroke's one minute barrier was broken by Indiana University's Chet "the Jet"Jastremski in 1961. The one hundred meter breastroke had to wait until 2001 to be swum under a minute by Russian swimmer Roman Sloudnov. Women swimmers have yet to break the one minute barrier in the 100 meter event; Beata Kaszuba from Arizona State University swam a sub-minute 100 yards in 1995.
