Abstract

The article looks at the role of mediation in family dispute resolution in Great Britain. The article focuses on the use of mediation in family law in England and Wales. Goals of family mediation include the support of marriage and parenting, a conciliatory approach to divorce, and the prevention of family violence. Aspects of the family mediation process are outlined, including the impact of family law, mediator and participant characteristics, and institutional context. The future of mediation in the administration of family law in Great Britain is discussed.
