Abstract

This is Chapter 9 of the book "Critical Social Welfare Issues: Tools for Social Work and Health Care Professionals." It explains that managed care presents one of the greatest challenge to health professionals which also has important implications for social work practice in the U.S. The country's health care system is undergoing fast change. Finance structure and service delivery in managed care have seen rapid changes. Competition in the industry is rising. Hospitals are expected to hire less social workers as hospitals in the future will no longer the center of the health care system.
