Abstract

This article presents an interview with Arup deputy chairman Cecil Balmond. Balmond is currently overseeing the construction of his first footbridge and the 2006 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London England's Hyde Park. He studied civil engineering at London's Imperial College in the mid 1960s because he wanted to travel the world, and for him being a civil engineer was the best way to do it. His passion was Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconne in D minor arranged for the guitar.
