Abstract

The article discusses appropriate and inappropriate methods of teaching physical education. Several methods that have been deemed unacceptable are putting students on display, using inappropriately sized equipment, using exercise as punishment, and letting students choose teams. Any one of these can lead to situations where students can become embarrassed and develop negative beliefs about physical fitness. Physical education majors should be familiar with the do's and don'ts of teaching fitness in schools. Because of recent changes in technology and pedagogy, many new teachers have a broader access to resources that will help direct their teaching in a positive direction.
