Abstract

This paper assesses the status of Affirmative Action in higher education as an equal opportunity tool for bringing African Americans into the mainstream of America. The key cases leading up to the Michigan Case are presented and the significance of these cases in their attempt to achieve diversity. An assessment of the current and future status of Affirmative Action in Higher Education is presented in light of the Michigan case and the reaction to its decision. The subsequent political and legal fallout from the case is discussed with a final determination of the current and future strength of Affirmative Action in higher education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
