Abstract
- An encyclopedia entry about British physician and philosopher Matthew Baillie is presented. He was born on October 27, 1761 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and died on September 23, 1823 in Gloucestershire, England. Baillie studied arts at Glasgow University between 1773 and 1779, where he won a Snell Exhibition to Balliol College in Oxford. His work "Morbid Anatomy of Some of the Most Important Parts of the Human Body" is said to be the first textbook of pathological anatomy published in English.
