Abstract: An encyclopedia entry for English philosopher Saint George Jackson Mivart is presented. He began reading on natural history and collecting specimens at an early age. He became acquainted with leading naturalists when he became a member of the Royal Institution in 1849. Mivart wrote "On the Genesis of Species," which criticized the Darwinian theory of natural selection.
