Abstract

This article discusses whether cecal volvulus should be managed differently in HIV-positive persons. Cecal volvulus, which is caused by the malrotation of the cecum, is a surgical emergency that requires prompt treatment to prevent morbidity and mortality. According to the authors, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the acute abdomen in any HIV/AIDS patient presenting with abdominal pain, as the acute abdomen could be due to HIV/AIDS-related or non-HIV/AIDS-related causes.
