Previous Dutch research suggests that occupational sex segregation has increased during the 1970's and 1980's. This is in contrast to results of research in other countries that generally show a decrease of occupational sex segregation in most of these countries. In this paper changes in the occupational sex segregation are investigatedfrom different points of view. Analyses of occupational data from the 1971 Census and the 1989 Labour Force Survey demonstrate that occupational sex segregation declined as well in The Netherlands during the last two decades. Women more often entered into male dominated and integrated occupations than into female dominated occupations. Men more often became employed in the female dominated and integrated occupations. As a result of these changes the sex typing of 27 of 188 investigated occupational titles changed, by which a new pattern of occupational sex segregation came into being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
