Abstract

The article examines the condition of environmental justice discourse in Nigeria. It deals on how the concept of environmental racism has been deployed to explain corporate and state conduct in the petroleum sector. It was found that the application of environmental racism distorts the social character of petroleum-related grassroots struggles in the country. The environmental injustice in the Nigerian petroleum industry started in an anti-people governance ethos, which creates conditions for gross regulatory ineffectiveness.
