Abstract

The article evaluates the suppressive effects of 16 traditional food items selected from Okinawa, Japan on 12-0-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate-induced lectin-like ox-low density lipoprotein receptor-1 messenger RNA expression in THP-1 human monocyte-like cells usinf differentiated Caco-2 cells as a model of the human small intestine. According to the authors, zerumbone is a potential phytochemical for regulating atherosclerosis with reasonable action mechanisms.
