Abstract

The article presents the highlights of a meeting on the Aga Khan Awards and the state of Islamic architecture attended by an international panel of scholars and architects at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on March 14, 1990. Doctor Said Zulficar of Egypt, secretary general of the Aga Khan Awards, spoke about the plight of the Islamic world. The panel agreed that while traditionalism is far from the solution to Islam's architectural problems, it can serve as a useful tool in informing design decisions.
