Abstract

The article focuses on the constructs of language and values in terms of aesthetic education. It refers to an articles published in a 1971 issue where researcher Allan Shields suggested the development of aesthetic values and co-researcher Stephen Dobbs commented that aesthetic language need refinement. The author tries to provide a common ground for both these perspectives but problematizes it by bringing forth the gap between language and values in art education. It is stated that aesthetic values and language are constantly bound by traditional stereotypes and are hence ambiguous to the layman. It is suggested that to educate others with art, art educators need to implore the dimensions of language and values rather than rely on mythical rhetoric.
