Trust and Uncertainty: The Emotional Basis of Rationality.

The necessary characteristics of trust include the asymmetry of dependence on another, the absence of pertinent knowledge concerning the other's future actions, and the bridging of time through attempting to realize a future anticipated by the trust giver. These all point in the direction of uncertainty. It will be shown that only non-deliberative or emotional faculties can respond to the uncertainty of trust.
