Abstract
- The article focuses on athlete Jim Thorpe known to the Sac and Fox tribe as Wathashcohuk who studied at Carlisle Indian industrial School in Pennsylvania. Accordingly, Thorpe has competed in 15 events, won 8 of them, and become the first and only man ever to win both the Decathlon and the Pentathlon. It states that as students of the Indian School, Thorpe, together with runner Louis Tewanima, have been considered to be wards of the nation. It also mentions that Thorpe has defeated the whole Lafayette track team on a watershed day in 1909.
