Abstract

The article reports that Pakistani officials are looking to alleviate concerns for the declining security situation in the country. It is indicated that politics in Pakistan has been unsteady and has continued over the past year. Thus, it raised questions about the country's ability to protect its nuclear assets. Mahamed ElBaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), was criticized by Islamabad in early January 2008 due to his comment that extremist groups in Pakistan or Afghanistan could gain nuclear weapons.
