Abstract

The article examines the roles of perlecan heparan sulfate (HS) chains through animal experimentation. The roles of lipid retention, lipid permeability, and smooth muscle cell proliferation are discussed. The study shows that the perlecan (HS) chains are proatherogenic in mice, which is most likely due to increased lipoproteins retention.
