CARING FOR PLACES OF WORSHIP? AN ANALYSIS OF CONTROLS OVER LISTED BUILDINGS IN ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND.

The article discusses the process of internal systems of control implemented to places of worship in England and Wales and in Scotland. It focuses on the exemption granted to ecclesiastical buildings from being included in the list of historic sites under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act (PLBCA) 1990 in England and Wales and the PLBC Act 1997 in Scotland. A comparison on how the two countries carry out development controls on their churches is also mentioned.
