Abstract

Amyloid refers to extracellular proteinaceous fibrillar tissue deposits having a unique set of morphologic, tinctorial, ultrastructural, and protein-folding characteristics (Kisilevsky, 1996). Up to now, more than 25 amyloid proteins or peptides have been identified, each being associated with one type of amyloid deposit (for a review see: Westermark et al., 2005). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
