Abstract

The article focuses on guideline-driven therapies intended on stopping sudden cardiac death (SCD). It states that one therapy to prevent SCD is the implantable cardioverter defrillator (ICD). It mentions that while ICD is cost effective and beneficial, most patients at risk of SCD are not receiving ICD. It examines results of a think tank by the Duke Center for the Prevention of SCD at Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, North Carolina.
