Abstract

The article focuses on the statistics which indicate declining consumption of recycled paper in the U.S. The statistics released by the U.S. Commerce Department show retail sales fell 0.3% in August 2008 amidst the U.S. economic downturn. It also shows that the domestic consumption of paper has also been declining. A report published by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) showed that the consumption of recycled paper was 2.830 million tons, a 4.7% decrease from July 2007.
