Abstract
- A model based iterative inversion technique in nondestructive testing for discontinuity profile reconstruction using the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is presented in this paper. The advantage of the EFG method over the traditional finite element model is that it relies on a set of nodes instead of a complex mesh to discretize the solution domain. Consequently, only a small number of nodes that represent the discontinuity profile need to be updated in each iteration. This in turn avoids the use of a dense mesh or labor-intensive remeshing procedure and results in increased efficacy and accuracy of solution. The formulation of the forward EFG model and results of discontinuity profiling using an approach based on state space search are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
