The article focuses on burial sites and burial practices in the case of crises, which result in many bodies needing to be buried in a rapid manner. Questions surrounding the burial of the dead as the result of military battles and plagues are examined. The intellectual process by which crisis burial sites are examined and ascribed a social meaning is said to be multidisciplinary, drawing from disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, demography, history, and sociology.
