Abstract

The article offers information on the summary of the outlook for cotton supply. It states that the prices of cotton continued to decrease in the first three weeks of November 2008. This development was influenced by price declines on commodity markets and lack of demand. Relative to this, cotton mill use in China is projected to decline by 7% to 10.1 million tons in 2008/2009 because of the rising costs of spinning. Moreover, cotton production is expected to decline by 6% in 2008/2009 to 24.6 million tons, influenced by a decline in cotton area caused by increased competition from oilseeds and grains.
