Abstract

The article presents a discussion about the needs of caregivers of adolescent children of incarcerated parents. According to data from the U.S. Department of Justice, 2.3 percent of children under the age of 18 years have parents in prison. It is noted that needs of caregivers are usually taken for granted. Some of the needs of caregivers are supports from friends, family and the community and emotional support such as counseling or group activities. Also discussed is the impact on children when their parent get imprisoned.
