Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the association of obesity and weight gain in adulthood and telomere length. It says that telomeres play a critical role in maintaining genomic integrity and may be involved in carcinogenesis. In this study, researchers used data from 647 women ages 35-74 years in the U.S. and Puerto Rico from 2003-2004. In addition, they examined the association between current and past anthropometric characteristics and telomere length in blood.
