Abstract

The article reports on the concept of the Groundwater Recovery and Treatment (GREAT) program, which was designed to manage community water resources as a fully functioning regional water supply system at Oxnard desalination facility in California. It relates that the program aims to reduce the need for imported water by creating facilities that can use brackish groundwater resources and reduce dependence on costly imported water supplies. Moreover, it emphasizes that GREAT is an energy-efficient treatment for brackish local groundwater, producing high-quality potable water that is blended with local groundwater for delivery to customers.
