Chapter 2: The Contemporary Canon Debate.

Chapter 2 of the book "Critical Theory and the Literary Canon," by E. Dean Kolbas is presented. It presents a critical survey about the contemporary debate of literary canon. It cites that the arguments concerning the canon in the U.S. is considered as an issue of educational reform. It also analyzes the specific claims of Western canon in order to elucidate that ways of the canon's conservative and liberal, humanistic, and pluralistic conceptions.
