Abstract

The article reports on an archaeological survey that took place in Las Animas County, Colorado that began in June 1941. The report discusses the physical geography of Las Animas County, the geological aspects of the land and the peoples they believed occupied the sites surveyed. They believe the sites were populated by Plains Indians and suggest that the Ute, Kiowa and Apache all made camps within the county. It reports on the number of sites encountered and what types of sites they found. They found cave dwellings and stone enclosures and shelters. They also observed pictographs and petrogylphs.
