Abstract
- The article reports on the legislation approved by a committee of the Washington D.C. Council on June 2, 2009 that bans the use of disposable bags. Under the bill, drug stores, food vendors, grocery stores, liquid stores, and restaurants that provide disposable paper or plastic carryout bags are required to pay a 5-cent-per-bag fee. In addition, the city government of San Francisco, California is one of the municipalities which also introduce a ban on the use of plastic bags.
