Abstract

The article examines the competition patterns in the movie theater business. Market conditions underline the decisions of businesses to either move closer to or geographically distance themselves from their competitors. The article analyzes two strategies in location choices: multiple locations in a single geographic zone and establishing units in multiple geographic zones using the example of the French multiplex market starting from the late 1980s. The market shares of large cinema operators such as Gaumont, Pathè, and UGC are cited.
