Abstract

The article discusses research which investigated the effect of sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) implantation on the duration of reperfusion-induced endothelial vasomotor dysfunction in infarct-related coronary arteries and on postinfarct left ventricular dysfunction in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Results showed an improvement in the left ventricular wall dysfunction after AMI in patients treated with bare metal stents. It was concluded that SES implantation may delay recovery of reperfusion-induced endothelial vasomotor dysfunction.
