Abstract

Because of the recent, continuing, and extensive mergers of Australian unions, labor historians are having increasing difficulties in finding records of defunct unions. Consequently, the Noel Butlin Archives Centre's 'Parties to the Award: A Guide to the Pedigrees and Archival Resources of Federally Registered Trade Unions, Employer Associations and Their Peak Councils in Australia, 1904-1994,' which includes 42 pedigree charts and an alphabetical directory showing where records of the federal offices and state branches of industrial organizations are held for research in archival institutions around the country is an important research tool. The publication is an effort toward archival management by archivists and librarians rather than a commercial venture.
