Abstract

The article discusses the characteristics of Flemish social and urban networks in the Medieval region of Flanders, Belgium during the late Middle Ages. The article describes the modes of communication through urban networks, the efficiency of messengers and their role in providing the basic political, social, and economic infrastructure for the means of communication, and the role of rumors in influencing urban politics. Other subjects under discussion include the Burgundian rule of Flanders, the political administration and management of information, and the politician Karel van Charolais.
