Abstract

The article discusses the Creek War, a series of campaigns by military commander Andrew Jackson against Creek Indians following the massacre of settlers at Fort Mims, Alabama. Indian chief Red Eagle led a force of Creek Indians known as Red Sticks to attack the fort. Tennessee governor William Blount assigned Jackson to lead militia against the Red Sticks. Despite the disintegration of the volunteer militia force, Jackson defeated the Red Sticks at Horseshoe Bend, Alabama.
