Abstract

The article discusses the influence of modern science on mummification techniques used during the ancient Egypt. It notes that drying the body is essential in the preservation of a mummy and removing water prevents the various enzymes in the body from functioning. It further states that DNA, proteins and lipids are helpful in the microscopic and molecular preservation of the mummies. It also mentions that soft tissues are preserved quickly with differences between normal decomposition and mummified bodies being apparent within five days from death.
