Mao Shi Guxun Zhuan (≪ ... ≫), the first complete annotation of Shijing(≪ ... ≫) made according to the contextual clues, displays various types of the method to explain one word through another. In the book, the linguistic context is used to activate the differential sememe between synonymous units, making it possible to differentiate the synonymous items paradigmatically associated with each other in terms of their grammatical and semantic properties.
