Abstract
- The article focuses on a study which examined nectar use by songbirds at stopover sites in the Mediterranean region. Nectar-feeding by birds was assessed on sites in 3 countries, namely, Spain, Italy and Greece. Among the bird species considered in the study were the blackcap, garden warbler S. borin, subalpine warbler S. cantillans and whitethroat S. communis. It was noted that the highest proportion of birds with fresh pollen on their plumage were observed in Ventotine and Anthikitira. Sylvia warblers demonstrated the highest proportions with fresh pollen on the plumage in both sites.
