The author examines the pattern and growth of the paper recycling industry. According to the author, the recovery rate of paper from 1993 to 2009 has jumped from 40% to 63.4% and this is attributed to considerable investments in recycled content mills and the surge of new capacities in the developing economies. Despite the challenge from paperless initiatives in many business sectors, recyclers at least can appreciate that they have taken measures to ensure that paper can compete as a sustainable material.
