Abstract
- The article discusses the history of Florence, Italy, in the period from 1917 to 1940, with reference to the British Institute of Florence, historian Harold Goad, and his work "History of the British Institute of Florence," and the history of Fascism in Florence and in Italy. Topics discussed include the foundation of the British Institute, and the political and cultural background of the Institute, other cultural institutions and cultural trends concurrent with the founding of the Institute, and the history of the British-Italian League for intellectual, political, and economic ties between Britain and Italy in 1916.
